The Oxford Philharmonic Orchestra’s 28th season opened with the inaugural production from Oxford International Opera. Looking ahead, the Orchestra tours to Berlin, Munich, Athens and Istanbul as part of a wide-ranging, year-long festival marking 200 years since Beethoven’s death. More than ever, the Orchestra is expanding its international reach while building on the success of its Academy Programme – offering unparalleled opportunities to local and global talent alike. This ambition is only possible thanks to the generosity of supporters, enabling us to advance the important Orchestra’s work.

Lillian Martin, together with her late husband, Dr. James Martin, created the Oxford Martin School (OMS) at the University of Oxford. Their belief in the power of interdisciplinary scholarship to address the challenges shaping our future remains at the heart of OMS.

Their interests extended well beyond their work with OMS. During their time in Oxford, Lillian and Jim immersed themselves in the city’s extraordinary cultural life, enjoying its museums, libraries, gardens and music. Lillian continues to support those experiences that made Oxford such a special part of their lives.

An author and researcher, Lillian has long brought her intellectual curiosity to her philanthropy, supporting learning, experimentation and cultural enrichment. Music, in particular, has been a constant throughout her life.

Her longstanding support of the Oxford Philharmonic Orchestra and its Academy reflects the importance that she and Jim placed on music and on making cultural experiences available to others.

In 2011, Lillian received the Distinguished Friend of Oxford Award, and in 2014 she was inducted as a Fellow of the Chancellor’s Court of Benefactors.
